One final newsletter from me as I conclude my work as your Northern District IAHPERD president... First off, Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to everyone. I hope you found time to rest, recharge and connect with family and friends over the holiday break.
Looking back, 2018 has been a productive year for us as a leadership team and an enjoyable experience for me personally. I'm honored to serve the profession and my fellow colleagues in this capacity. As we get set for a changing of the guard, I know that we'll be in good hands as new people have stepped up to fill roles within the organization. I'm looking forward to working with our new president, Steve Hart and our new president-elect, Kelly Zerby. I'm also eager to get to know our new delegate, Angelic Semenek better this year. We'll have Susie Shanel with us again as our treasurer and several others supporting our efforts to continue pushing our profession forward. Thank you to Jason Cowan and Julene Ensign for their work over the years as part of our leadership team as well.
One of the highlights for me this year was beginning a series of mini-workshops around the Northern District area we call "Road Shows." These professional development opportunities are something we look forward to growing in the coming year. We kicked off our first one this past fall at Northern Illinois University in DeKalb. Our next one will be on April 27 at Rockton Honenegah HS. We'll be pushing out more information on this in the coming months.
I'm also excited to announce that we will be bringing in a special guest presenter, Matt Pomeroy, to our annual Spring Workshop at Judson University in Elgin on February 23rd. I got to spend some time with Matt this summer on a road trip to Kentucky where we both presented at a PE workshop together. Matt teaches middle school physical education in Merton, Wisconsin. You can learn more about him here www.pomeroyshpe.com/
One of the other things we do in addition to supplying professional development opportunities is to support our members by awarding grant money. This year we awarded two grants to applicants totaling just over $1,100.00. If you'd like to get some free money to enhance your program, complete an application CLICK HERE. The deadline to apply is April 1, 2019.
That's all for now...I'm signing off as President and prepping to work with our new team as Past-President. I'm looking forward to 2019 with eager anticipation!
